Pup joints, along with tubing and casing of varying lengths, are utilized to precisely adjust the production string length to meet the desired specifications. Once the desired length is achieved, the adjustable union or joint is installed, rotated into place, and securely locked. In dual completion applications, this tool can be used to fine-tune the length of the short string. Adjustable unions and joints are essential for tubing spacing during well completion. Typically, the available tubing length at the surface is insufficient for proper installation and operation of the wellhead.
