This high-strength, low-alloy structural steel plate is primarily used in bridge construction. Super Steel supplies A709 Grade 36, A709 Grade 50, and A709 Grade 50W, all commonly specified with Charpy V-Notch impact tests based on the applicable zone or the lowest anticipated service temperature. These impact tests are categorized as either non-fracture critical—conducted per heat (Frequency“H”)—or fracture critical, which are performed per plate (Frequency“P”).
Additionally, bridge steels may be ordered under the AASHTO M270 specification, corresponding to AASHTO M270 Grade 36, Grade 50, and Grade 50W, providing standardized performance requirements for highway and transportation projects.
