ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) steel pipes offer several advantages over other types of steel pipes, making them a preferred choice for various industrial applications. Below are the key advantages of ERW steel pipes.
A) High Dimensional Accuracy
ERW steel pipes exhibit significantly higher dimensional accuracy compared to seamless steel pipes. Both the pipe diameter and wall thickness have much smaller deviations because strip rolling and pipe forming are easier to control. This precision ensures consistency in pipe dimensions, which is crucial for applications that require tight tolerances.
B) Superior Mechanical Properties
ERW steel pipes demonstrate better mechanical properties, thanks to advanced rolling, welding technology, and on-line heat treatment. The weld's performance can be controlled, resulting in straight-seam welded steel pipes with an elongation rate 8%-10% higher than that of seamless steel pipes. This is because the carbon content in ERW pipes is less than 12%, lower than in seamless tubes, contributing to their improved mechanical performance.

Unlike other welded pipes, ERW steel pipes do not involve welding dissimilar metals. The weld undergoes a rigorous on-line heat treatment, ensuring that the weld’s performance is nearly identical to the pipe’s base material. This enhances the overall strength and durability of the pipe.
