Ensuring the safe transport of spiral steel pipes is crucial to maintaining their quality and performance. Proper handling and packaging are essential to avoid damage during loading, unloading, and transit. Here are the recommended practices.
Fixed-Length Pipes:
Fixed-length spiral steel pipes can be transported unbundled to simplify handling and reduce packaging requirements.
Thread Protection:
Threaded ends of spiral steel pipes should be safeguarded with thread protectors. Lubricating oil or rust inhibitor should be applied to the threads to prevent corrosion. If specified, nozzle protectors can be installed to provide additional protection for the pipe ends.
Secure Packaging:
Packaging should be designed to prevent loosening and damage during normal handling, transportation, and storage.
Protective Devices:
If required by the customer, external protective devices such as rubber, straw ropes, fiber cloth, plastic caps, or pipe caps can be added between pipes to prevent bumps and surface damage.
Thin-Walled Pipe Support:
For thin-walled spiral steel pipes, inner tube supports or outer frames made from the same steel material as the pipe can be used for additional protection.
Customer-Specified Packaging:
Any special packaging material or method requested by the customer should be specified in the contract. If no specific requirements are given, the supplier may select the appropriate materials and methods.
Compliance with Regulations:
Packaging materials must meet relevant regulations and be suited to their intended purpose, ensuring minimal waste and environmental impact.
Bundling Specifications:
By default, spiral steel pipes may be packed in bulk, but bundling can be arranged if requested. Pipes with diameters between 159 mm and 500 mm can be bundled using steel belts. Each bundle should be twisted into at least two strands, with additional reinforcement based on pipe size and weight to prevent loosening.
Container Protection:
When transporting spiral steel pipes in containers, line the container with soft, moisture-proof materials like textile cloth or straw mats. To further secure the pipes, bundling or welding protective brackets outside the pipes can be considered.
By following these practices, spiral steel pipes can be effectively safeguarded against damage, ensuring they arrive at their destination in optimal condition.
