1. Material Characteristics of 12Cr2MoG High-Pressure Seamless Steel Pipe

Chemical Composition
12Cr2MoG is a low-alloy pearlitic heat-resistant steel. Its primary alloying elements—chromium (2.0–2.5%) and molybdenum (0.9–1.2%)—enhance oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature strength. The steel also contains:

Carbon: 0.08–0.15% – ensures baseline strength

Silicon: improves strength and elastic limit

Manganese: enhances toughness

Metallographic Structure
The microstructure mainly consists of pearlite and ferrite. Pearlite, made of ferrite and lamellar cementite, can degrade under prolonged high temperatures, but the chromium and molybdenum inhibit this deterioration, maintaining structural stability over time.

2. Production Process of 12Cr2MoG High-Pressure Seamless Steel Pipes

Smelting
Electric arc or converter steelmaking is used. Alloying elements like Cr and Mo are added at precise stages to ensure homogeneous distribution and meet required chemical specifications.

Rolling
Hot rolling involves heating billets to 1200–1250°C, piercing them, and forming pipes with controlled dimensions. Cold rolling/drawing improves surface quality and dimensional accuracy, albeit at higher production costs and lower efficiency.

Heat Treatment
Pipes undergo normalization (900–960°C) to refine grain size and increase toughness, followed by tempering (700–750°C) to relieve stress and enhance overall mechanical performance.

3. Performance Features of 12Cr2MoG High-Pressure Seamless Steel Pipes

High-Temperature Strength & Creep Resistance
12Cr2MoG pipes can maintain mechanical integrity under continuous high-temperature exposure (around 600°C) and pressure, showing strong creep resistance and long-term stability—for example, in 10 MPa steam lines.

Corrosion Resistance
Thanks to its Cr and Mo content, the steel resists corrosive environments such as water vapor and sulfur-containing gases, reducing wall thinning and maintenance frequency.

Weldability
While weldable, proper procedures are essential. Preheating to 200–300°C and post-weld heat treatment are required to avoid cracking and ensure joint reliability.

4. Applications of 12Cr2MoG High-Pressure Seamless Steel Pipes

High-Pressure Transport
Primarily used for transporting high-temperature, high-pressure fluids in the petrochemical and power industries—e.g., steam, oil, natural gas, and chemical feeds.

Structural Components
Also employed in manufacturing high-performance equipment parts such as:

Furnace and heat exchanger tubes in refineries

Superheater and reheater components in power station boilers
