Introduction to 10CrMoAl steel plate

Date:2025-10-15

10CrMoAl is a low-alloy, high-strength steel specifically engineered to withstand corrosion in marine and coastal environments. Its designation reflects its key alloying elements and carbon content:

10→Indicates a carbon (C) content of about 0.10%, classifying it as a low-carbon steel with excellent weldability and toughness.

Cr (Chromium)→Enhances corrosion resistance by forming a dense, passive protective film on the steel surface.

Mo (Molybdenum)→Improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-rich seawater.

Al (Aluminum)→Forms a stable Al₂O₃oxide film, which further strengthens corrosion resistance in marine atmospheres.

Because of its remarkable durability and corrosion resistance, 10CrMoAl is widely used in shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and coastal construction, earning it the nickname“marine steel.”

Key Features and Advantages of 10Cr MoAl Steel Plate

1. Exceptional Corrosion Resistance in Marine Environments

10CrMoAl rapidly forms a compact Cr-Mo-Al composite oxide film when exposed to water and oxygen. This film firmly adheres to the surface, effectively blocking chloride ions (Cl⁻) and other corrosive agents.
As a result, the steel offers superior protection against uniform corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion—far outperforming carbon steels (e.g., Q235B) and even some stainless steels in seawater conditions.

2. Excellent Weldability

Thanks to its low carbon content and balanced alloy composition, 10CrMoAl provides strong weld joints without compromising corrosion resistance or mechanical integrity.

3. High Strength with Good Ductility

It maintains a balance between strength and toughness, making it suitable for both load-bearing and corrosion-prone environments.

Main Applications of 10Cr MoAl Steel Plate

Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering:
Used for hulls, decks, superstructures, as well as platform legs, jackets, and deck plates on offshore oil rigs.

Coastal Infrastructure:
Applied in desalination plants, seawater cooling systems of power plants, piers, and splash zone structures of cross-sea bridges.

Port Machinery:
Suitable for cranes, loading arms, and equipment exposed to high salinity.

Other Marine Equipment:
Commonly used in pipes, valves, and pump casings that handle seawater or corrosive marine fluids.

In summary, 10CrMoAl combines high mechanical strength, excellent weldability, and outstanding corrosion resistance, making it a premium choice for long-term service in harsh marine and coastal environments.
