Carbon steel pipe is not synonymous with welded steel pipe. Carbon steel pipe refers to a type of steel pipe made from carbon steel, an iron-carbon alloy containing less than 2.11% carbon. In addition to carbon, it may include small amounts of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and trace elements. This type of pipe is widely used in industries such as construction, bridges, railways, vehicles, ships, and machinery manufacturing.
Carbon steel pipes can be categorized into two main types based on the manufacturing process: carbon steel welded pipes and carbon steel seamless pipes.
Types of Carbon Steel Welded Pipes
Carbon steel welded pipes can be further classified into three types based on the weld formation method:
Straight Seam Welded Pipe: The weld runs along a straight line, hence the name "straight seam welded pipe."
Spiral Welded Pipe: The weld follows a spiral pattern, known as a "spiral welded pipe."
High-Frequency Straight Seam Welded Pipe: This type of welded pipe uses high-frequency currents for welding, primarily in straight-seam forms.
Each welding method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice depends on the specific design and application requirements.
Applications of Carbon Steel Welded Pipes
Carbon steel welded pipes are used in various fields, including water supply and drainage, piling projects, sewage pipelines, oil and gas transmission, and structural supports. The most common welding technique for carbon steel welded pipes today is double-sided submerged arc welding. This method is known for its high efficiency, superior weld quality, and smooth surface finish.
