Pre-welding process for LSAW steel pipe

Date:2024-10-22

The manufacturing and welding processes for LSAW steel pipes, particularly the UOE and JCOE methods, are designed for continuous advancement. Their primary role is to ensure the accurate formation and shaping of the pipe after tube forming, securing the weld seam in position. This process is crucial for maintaining the correct pipe dimensions, enhancing weld quality, and increasing overall production efficiency. In this article, we will discuss the pre-welding process used in the manufacturing of LSAW steel pipes.

Pre-Welding Process for LSAW Steel Pipes

Once the pipe is formed, it is transported by a roller conveyor to the pre-welding station. At this stage, the pipe is placed on rotating rolls, which adjust its position to align the weld seam at the top. Pressure rollers are applied to both sides of the seam to hold it in place. The welding gun is then positioned and adjusted to follow the weld seam precisely. Once the setup is complete, protective gas and cooling water are activated, and the welding process begins. Continuous monitoring ensures the welding proceeds smoothly until the arc reaches the pipe's end, at which point the arc stops automatically (with a delay for gas protection). Afterward, the welding gun and pressure rollers are lifted, and the pipe is moved for further processing, with attention given to addressing any welding defects.

Characteristics of the Pre-Welding Process

The pre-welding process typically uses Ar + CO₂mixed gas shielded arc welding. During this stage, the seam is continuously welded along the pipe's back at a high speed. Various factors, such as the bevel angle, pipe shape, longitudinal openings, and plate edge distortions, can affect the seam's stability. These irregularities lead to inconsistent seam quality and require constant adjustments during the welding process. The weld's position may deviate, so real-time tracking and adjustment are necessary to ensure proper alignment. As a result, the pre-welding process involves a high degree of variability, with adjustments made to account for changes in welding speed and seam quality, making it a dynamic and essential part of the overall production.
