The shape requirements of Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW) steel pipes are essential for ensuring they meet industry standards and perform reliably in various applications. Here are some of the key shape requirements of LSAW steel pipe.
Diameter Tolerance:
LSAW pipes are generally produced with strict diameter tolerances, typically ranging between±0.5% to±1% of the nominal outside diameter. This ensures consistent pipe sizing for fitting and joining.
Wall Thickness:
The wall thickness tolerance usually ranges from±5% to±10% of the nominal thickness. This tolerance helps maintain strength and durability, particularly for pipes used in high-pressure applications.
Straightness:
LSAW pipes must be straight, with minimal bending or curvature. Straightness tolerances often range around 0.15% of the pipe length. Good straightness minimizes stress points and eases installation.
Ovality:
This is the difference between the maximum and minimum outside diameters, which should not exceed 1% of the nominal outside diameter. Controlling ovality ensures roundness for effective seals and connections.
Length Tolerance:
LSAW pipes are typically supplied in lengths that range from 6 to 12 meters, with a tolerance of±0.5% on the specified length. Uniform length is crucial for alignment in construction and infrastructure projects.
End Squareness:
The ends of LSAW pipes are usually required to be square, with a maximum deviation of about 1% of the pipe diameter. Square ends facilitate proper welding and alignment during installation.
Beveling and Chamfering:
The pipe ends are often beveled or chamfered to allow for efficient welding. The standard angle is usually around 30°to 35°, with a root face of 1.6 mm (±0.8 mm), facilitating a secure weld.
Surface Smoothness:
The internal and external surfaces should be smooth and free from irregularities. The degree of smoothness may depend on the intended application but typically falls under strict quality control to prevent leaks and ensure structural integrity.
These shape requirements ensure that LSAW pipes are manufactured to high standards, providing durability and compatibility in fields such as oil and gas, construction, and transportation.
