SSAW steel pipe, also known as spiral submerged arc welded steel pipe, is manufactured using strip coils as raw material. The pipe is formed by extrusion at room temperature and welded with an automatic double-wire, double-sided submerged arc welding process. The classification of SSAW steel pipes is as follows.
1. SSAW Steel Pipe (SY5036-83)
This type is designed for pressurized fluid transportation, primarily used for pipelines conveying oil and natural gas.
2. SSAW Steel Pipe (SY5038-83)
This pipe is also used for pressurized fluid transportation but utilizes a high-frequency welding method. It is known for its high load-bearing capacity, excellent plasticity, and ease of welding and machining.
3. SSAW Steel Pipe (SY5037-83)
Used for general low-pressure fluid transportation, this pipe is manufactured using a double-sided automatic submerged arc welding process or a single-sided welding method. It is commonly applied to the delivery of water, gas, air, steam, and other low-pressure fluids.
Common Standards for SSAW Steel Pipes
SY/T5037-2000: Ministerial standard, also known as spiral submerged arc welded steel pipe for ordinary fluid transportation pipelines.
GB/T9711.1-1997: Chinese national standard for pipelines used in the oil and gas industry.
API-5L: American Petroleum Institute standard, widely used for pipeline steel, divided into PSL1 and PSL2 categories.
SY/T5040-92: Standard for spiral seam submerged arc welded pipes used in pile foundations.
