1. Billet Preparation
The process begins with the selection of high-quality raw materials, typically steel or alloy steel billets. These billets are carefully inspected for defects and then cut to the required length to prepare for the subsequent stages.
2. Piercing
Once the billet is prepared, it is heated to a suitable temperature to facilitate piercing. A piercing rod with a pointed end is used to create a hole through the center of the billet, forming an initial hole called a “bloom.” This step sets the foundation for creating a hollow tube.
3. Elongation
After piercing, the bloom undergoes elongation to reduce its diameter and increase its length. This is achieved by passing the bloom through a series of rolling operations, where it is gradually reduced and stretched to achieve the desired shape and dimensions.
4. Cold Drawing
The elongated tube, now referred to as a “hollow,” is cold drawn through a die to further reduce its diameter. Cold drawing is performed at room temperature, ensuring that the tube remains seamless throughout the process. This step is crucial in obtaining the final pipe dimensions and mechanical properties.
5. Annealing
